Product Summary

How many times had they done this together 60+ years before? Your logo, my tube, or vice versa. Perhaps countless times to those who witnessed the making of these incredible tubes but to most of us perhaps fewer times than we have even heard of. Yet every collaboration brought nothing less than the most breathtaking tube in the world, by all measurements, at all levels. Like we always say at Soundlumia about these super rarities, 100% authentic to its true origin and 200% prestige of German tube brand. Now how about 300%? Siemens label + Early Berlin Production w/ no date code (NOT worn-off)  +  ◇ Bottom = MEGA RARE!

Sound Qualities

The "Crown Jewelry" ECC82 tube is here! If you've been seeking the reference vintage tube sound in the EC82/12AU7 land then look no further. Designed for high end amplifiers and preamplifiers, Telefunken ECC82 provides high level gain with ultra low noise and are unquestionably the most sought-after vintage tube and treasured by audio professionals and enthusiasts.  Like any other Telefunken tubes, they are very pleasant to listen to: liquid, euphonic, with a slightly warmer midrange than many other German tubes, which makes your sound experience smooth and non-fatiguing, and all that happens on a unbelievably realistic holographic sound stage, where everything feels bigger, wider and taller. Sound texture can be felt through infinite levels of details, laying on top of each other, both in depth and in width. So your quest for superb sound clarity can end right here. Lastly, it never gets old to say that no other brand is even close to these when it comes to low noise - Telefunken tubes are "extremely" quiet just as legend has it.

Professional Sound Evaluation

The tube worked wonderfully and sounded terrific in our professional studio setup for monitoring.

 - Input: Cambridge Audio CXC V2 dedicated CD transport + Schiit Audio Bifrost 2 Multibit DAC
 - Amplification: Handcrafted Bottlehead Crack Headphone amplifier
 - Output: Neumann NDH 20 Closed Back Studio Headphones

Our full tube sound review was written 100% based on the actual listening experience while this tube was running in the system described above.

Professional Tube Testing

NO short, leakage or gas. NO noise or microphonics.

This tube tested NOS (100%+ nominal mutual conductance) and 100% balanced on a reliable and recently calibrated Mercury 2000 tube tester with the following results (mutual conductance in both uMhos and percentage of nominal):

3,090/3,100 (103%/103%)

Good tubes start at 2000 and new tubes (incl. NOS/NIB) 3,000 - 3,100, and the Mercury 2000's rated mutual conductance (nominal) for new tubes is 3,000. Test result can also be seen in the pictures. In case you wonder what all these numbers mean to your sound experience, it's actually quite straightforward: mutual conductance directly translates to tube's ability to amplify sound, so the higher these numbers the stronger.

Appearance & Cosmetic condition

Beside the world-class sound signature and its prestigious origin, we also treasure this tube for its pristine cosmetic condition - at least 95% of the paint and lettering are well preserved.

And of course the diamond mark on bottom - the symbol of the best sound one can ever find on ECC82's.
